In brief
On Oct 29, Seoul's KOSPI and KOSDAQ slipped as U.S. markets tumbled and investors worried about AI. The indices were down 177.31 points and 15.47 points respectively, marking a sharp move into a period of heightened caution.
Seoul’s major stock indices opened lower on Friday, Oct 29, as losses on Wall Street and growing unease over emerging artificial‑intelligence technology set an off‑beat tone in the market, according to the Korean news agency Yonhap.
Yonhap reported that the KOSPI fell 1.6 percent to 5,760.35, a decline of 177.31 points, while the KOSDAQ dropped 2.1 percent to 737.76, falling 15.47 points.
Both Downtick figures were confirmed by a second Yonhap bulletin that reiterated the 5,760.35 open for the KOSPI and the 137.31‑point fall.
The agency added that the slump reflected investor caution amid global market volatility and a sense that artificial‑intelligence developments might reshape futures before it identifies fair value in key companies.
Finance Briefs, a “5‑minute brief” source, noted that Wall Street closed lower on the preceding Friday, Oct 16, and the Nasdaq had slipped more than 4 percent over the week. The brief highlighted AI financing worries resurfacing as a key driver of the decline.
