Oman’s Royal Navy evacuated 25 crew members from a commercial vessel that had been attacked and set ablaze off the coast of Musandam on Sunday, according to Xinhua and the Maritime Security Center, which released a statement on Friday.
The vessel, described as Panama‑flagged, was said to have caught fire 1.6 nautical miles off Musandam, and the navy, working with the security centre, carried out the evacuation. The crew received medical care after the incident, the centre said, and no additional details were provided.
Internazionale and Arabian Journal added that the ship was named RITI, a Panamanian‑flagged vessel, giving a specific identity to the incident reported by the local authorities.
In contrast, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported that a vessel sailing outbound through the Strait of Hormuz had caught fire approximately 25 nautical miles northeast of Khasab. That account has not yet been confirmed by Omani sources and appears to be an unverified, parallel report.
At present, local authorities have not released further information on the cause of the attack or the identity of any perpetrators, leaving several details unresolved.
