Nearly 1,477 food and beverage items from 195 major manufacturers in Japan will have their prices lifted in November, a survey by Japanese research company Teikoku Databank reported on Monday.
Seasonings, including sauces and mayonnaise, account for the largest share of the hikes, with 644 items, followed by alcoholic and non‑alcoholic beverages, which will see price increases for 417 items.
The survey indicates that 20,327 products will be subject to price hikes this year, the first year that number has surpassed 20,000, and the second consecutive year to reach that threshold.
Looking forward, a Teikoku Databank official said that the pace of price increases may slow next year as companies pass on higher costs while carefully gauging consumer responses.
