In brief

A man named Elias Serevetas was shot and killed in Melbourne’s northern suburb of Reservoir on Tuesday night. Police say the death is suspicious and are probing the victim’s possible ties to organised crime and connections to other recent shootings. A black Lexus burned in nearby Thomastown and a white Toyota left the scene, but the gunman remains at large.

A 55‑year‑old man was killed after he was shot in the northern suburbs of Melbourne on Tuesday night, police said. The incident occurred around 11:50 p.m. in Reservoir, 11 km north of central Melbourne. The victim, identified by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) as Elias Serevetas, died after being shot repeatedly in the upper body.

The Queensland Police Service released a statement on Wednesday that emergency services were called to the scene and that the homicide squad was investigating possible links to organised crime and whether the killing could be related to other recent shootings in the area. Police are treating the death as suspicious.

ABC reported that Serevetas was lured out of a relative’s home before the shooting. A black Lexus used by the gunman was found burnt out in nearby Thomastown, while a white Toyota Corolla was seen leaving the fire scene shortly after the shooting.

The gunman remains at large as of Wednesday afternoon, and investigators have yet to confirm whether the incident was targeted or unrelated to broader criminal activity. Police are still examining evidence for any connection to organised crime, but no definitive link has been established.

Residents in Reservoir and surrounding suburbs have reported heightened tension, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward as the investigation proceeds.
