In a major counterterrorism operation, German police have arrested three suspected members of the militant group Hamas, who are believed to be planning attacks on Israeli and Jewish institutions within Germany.

The suspects, identified as Abed Al G, Wael F M, both German nationals, and Lebanese-born Ahmad I, were detained in Berlin. This operation comes just before Yom Kippur, which is the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

Prosecutors reported that the trio had been procuring firearms and ammunition since the summer, with a significant cache found during their arrest—this included an AK-47 assault rifle, several handguns, and substantial ammunition stockpiles.

The arrests were made during what was reported to be a meeting for a weapons handover. Concurrent searches occurred in Leipzig and Oberhausen, enhancing the breadth of the investigation.

Under German law, the men face serious charges, including preparing for an act of violence that endangers state security and membership in a foreign terrorist organization. They are set to appear before a federal judge soon.

This incident follows a previous trial earlier this year involving four Hamas members accused of collaborating on attacks against Jewish sites in Europe, underscoring ongoing concerns about rising antisemitic violence in the region.
