In brief

Bangladesh recorded its worst dengue month of 2026 in October, killing 418 people and admitting more than 133,000 to hospitals. Experts warn the outbreak is unlikely to ease before December, and the nation faces additional strain from a massive measles epidemic.

DHAKA, 1 November 2026 (WAM) – Bangladesh recorded the highest monthly dengue death toll of 2026 in October, with 418 deaths and over 133,000 hospital admissions reported as of October 30.

According to the health ministry, the month of October alone accounted for 173 deaths, surpassing September’s 148 and making it the deadliest month of the year so far.

Experts said the outbreak is unlikely to ease significantly before December, adding that the country also battles the world’s worst measles epidemic, which has killed more than 1,200 people and further strains an already stretched healthcare system.

Health officials have urged the public to seek early treatment and raise awareness, noting that continued surveillance and vaccine distribution are essential to manage the dual crises.

While the figures represent confirmed data from the health ministry and the WAM report, ongoing updates will track the situation as the national response continues.
