In Madrid on Wednesday, 29 October 2026, Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam and Spain’s State Secretary for Foreign and Global Affairs Diego Martinez Belio met to sign a roadmap for enhancing bilateral ties.

The Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry statement issued on Thursday confirmed that the two officials agreed to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, cultural exchange and skilled migration, and to explore new avenues for business‑to‑business exchanges, export diversification, and exposition arrangements.

They also discussed cooperation in sports diplomacy, the creative economy, arts and tourism, with the aim of broadening cultural engagement and people‑to‑people links.

Outside the Xinhua report, no other publicly available sources have confirmed or added further details about the agreement, and the Facebook post mentioning Bangladesh’s free‑trade talks with 11 countries could not be accessed for verification.
