At about 1 p.m. local time on Thursday, a soil collapse at a water‑pipe construction site in Anjo City, Aichi Prefecture, buried two workers, one of whom was rescued but later died in hospital, while the other remains missing, firefighters reported.
The local fire department received the call and responded to a scene where two workers had been trapped under soil, as reported by local media and noted by the public broadcaster NHK. One of the buried workers was extracted by the responders but was transported to a regional hospital where he was later confirmed dead.
By 4 p.m., the second worker had not been found, and the local fire department and additional responders were continuing search and rescue operations. The status of the missing worker remains unconfirmed as of that time.
