Xinhua reports that Afghan counter‑narcotics police seized more than 180 kg of opium and hashish and arrested four suspected drug traffickers in the northern province of Takhar on Saturday. The four suspects were transporting the drugs to an unknown destination when police intercepted their vehicle in the provincial capital of Taluqan, and all were taken into custody, the spokesperson Naqibullah Masroor said on Sunday. The seized contraband included 143 kg of opium and 40 kg of hashish, which had been concealed in compartments of a car, Masroor added.

In a parallel operation in the western province of Herat, police confiscated 32 kg of methamphetamine and arrested two individuals on Friday, the Afghan authorities said. The Herat raid was carried out in a vehicle that the police believed was transporting the drug for distribution within the country.

The Xinhua account confirms the size, location and date of both operations, and the arrest of all the suspects involved. The report does not specify the suspects’ identities or the exact distribution plans for the drugs after interception.
