Why has Spain’s PM called a snap election?

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez confirmed that Spain will head to the polls on 29 November after the Socialist-led minority government failed to secure passage of vital housing reforms in the Spanish Congress. The failure has left the ruling party vulnerable, with polls now showing it trailing the conservative People’s Party, which many analysts say could join forces with the far‑right Vox to form a new government.

In his announcement, Sanchez warned Spaniards about the perceived "extreme‑right wave" that he sees spreading across other nations. He reaffirmed that Spain should continue to stand as a global example of "peace, feminism and prosperity," while preparing for a potentially tumultuous campaign period.
