Iran and the US have agreed to a conditional two-week ceasefire, during which shipping traffic will be allowed through the Strait of Hormuz.
This comes more than a month after the US and Israel launched coordinated attacks on Iran, and hours after US President Donald Trump threatened a whole civilisation will die tonight if Iran did not reopen the Strait.
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has been mediating negotiations, stated that the ceasefire is effective immediately.
Trump has agreed to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks if Tehran reopens the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route. In a posting on Truth Social, he claimed this decision follows the US having met all military objectives.
However, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps have warned that ongoing strikes would result in serious responses, particularly from Israel, as sirens sounded in Israel shortly after the ceasefire announcement.
While the ceasefire aims to ease recent tensions, significant military operations are ongoing, particularly in Iraq and Lebanon, regions deeply intertwined in the conflict. Deliberations continue as Pakistan invites delegations to Islamabad to negotiate a lasting settlement.
