A Russian strike has killed at least four people, including three young children, in a town west of Kharkiv, a Ukrainian official reports. Oleg Synegubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, stated that two boys, both 1 year old, a two-year-old girl, and a 34-year-old man died after a drone hit the house they were staying in. Additionally, a 35-year-old pregnant woman and a 76-year-old woman were injured in the strike on Bohodukhiv. The tragic incident comes as Moscow resumes its strikes after a week-long pause that followed a call from US President Donald Trump urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to observe a fierce cold sweeping through Ukraine.
The attack on Bohodukhiv is not isolated; Russian forces also targeted the city of Slovyansk, dropping seven bombs that resulted in the death of two, including an 11-year-old girl. Earlier this week, Bohodukhiv had already endured another strike, which killed a mother and her 10-year-old son while cutting power to tens of thousands in the region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed concerns over the increasing pressure on the area, particularly as Russian forces target transport and energy infrastructure with a record number of ballistic missiles.
In response to the deteriorating energy situation, local authorities have declared a state of emergency in the Kharkiv region. This declaration follows the expiration of an 'energy truce', which was previously intended to provide relief to Ukraine's energy sector amid frigid temperatures.
As tensions escalate, Zelensky highlighted that the US aims for a resolution to the conflict by June, with both sides invited to the US for discussions next week. Meanwhile, a reported Ukrainian drone attack targeted Volzhsky in Russia, damaging an apartment and igniting a fire at a factory, indicating the continued intensity of the conflict.
