Robotic Olympics: Boxing, Football and Speed at World Humanoid Games

Beijing is hosting the 2026 World Humanoid Games, a five‑day showcase where humanoid robots are pushing the limits of artificial competition. On opening day, a robot ran the 100‑metre sprint at a pace that eclipsed Usain Bolt’s world record, setting the tone for a series of spectacular displays.

The event also featured a robot that performed Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous “Siuuu” celebration on a football pitch, bringing a touch of human flair to machine sport. In addition, the Games included robot boxing, high jump, Tai‑Chi, table tennis and a synchronized marching demonstration that marked the ceremony’s start.

These varied contests showcase not only speed and strength but also the growing sophistication of humanoid technology, hinting at a future where robots and humans increasingly share the sporting arena. The BBC’s Stephen McDonell reports from the capital on this groundbreaking event.
