Nigerian army rescues 33 kidnapped travelers in Zamfara

The Nigerian army announced that it has safely rescued 33 people who were abducted by armed gunmen while traveling through the north‑western Zamfara state. The incidents took place in the Tsafe area on Saturday afternoon, when the military and police were alerted to a sudden disappearance of passengers.

Troops moved swiftly to the scene and intercepted the kidnappers while they were transporting hostages. The gunmen fled into the nearby bush after coming under fire, leaving all victims unharmed.

This operation follows recent successes, including the rescue of more than 300 abductees across Nigeria in separate attacks, and a previous release of 44 pupils and teachers after a 50‑day captivity in Oyo state. President Bola Tinubu has announced a substantial salary hike for soldiers amid continued security challenges.

As Nigeria faces escalating banditry and armed‑group kidnappings, the armed forces are stepping up patrols and encouraging local communities to report suspicious activity.
