HAMMONTON, N.J. — A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday as two helicopters were involved in a midair collision over Hammonton Municipal Airport, according to federal authorities. The crash, reported at approximately 11:25 a.m., led to the death of one pilot and left another critically injured.

Hammonton Police Chief Kevin Friel stated that emergency responders quickly extinguished flames from one of the helicopters following the collision. Both aircraft involved were Enstrom models: an F-28A and a 280C. At the time of the incident, only the pilots were aboard.

Eyewitnesses captured alarming video footage showing one of the helicopters spinning uncontrollably before descending.

Hammonton, a town with a population of around 15,000, is located in Atlantic County, approximately 35 miles southeast of Philadelphia. Known for its agricultural heritage, it rests close to the extensive Pine Barrens forest area.

In response to the crash, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been alerted and are currently launching investigations to determine the causes behind this unfortunate event.
