ANN ARBOR, Mich. (RTW News) — After spending two nights in jail, former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is set for an arraignment amid a police investigation of allegations regarding an assault.

Moore, 39, was terminated from his position on Wednesday due to what the university described as an inappropriate relationship with a member of staff. Hours later, he was taken into custody.

While authorities have withheld specific details about Moore’s arrest, it has been confirmed that he remains in the Washtenaw County Jail while the investigation is ongoing.

According to a statement released by Pittsfield Township police, officers responded to an alleged assault, leading to an arrest without naming individuals involved. This information became public following inquiries from the media regarding Moore's situation.

The university has not disclosed additional details about the alleged relationship, yet noted that the investigation uncovered credible evidence against Moore, who is a married father of three. Athletic director Warde Manuel stated that Moore’s actions constituted “a clear violation of university policy.”

Moore joined Michigan last year with a five-year contract worth $5.5 million annually. Due to the circumstances surrounding his firing for cause, the university is not obligated to buy out the remaining years of the contract.

As the former offensive coordinator, Moore was appointed to lead the Wolverines after their national title victory, following the departure of Jim Harbaugh to the NFL.

Michigan is set to face No. 14 Texas in the Citrus Bowl on December 31. Biff Poggi, who previously filled in for Moore during his suspension earlier this season related to a Harbaugh-era sign-stealing scandal, will act as interim coach until a new head coach is appointed.

The uncertainty around the coaching position may also lead to player transfers and potential hesitance from donors contributing to NIL deals, impacting the program significantly.
