MIAMI, FL | A Miami attorney who represented sexual assault victims in cases against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has been suspended from the practice of law after a single dinner receipt exposed a lie she told to protect herself — and a false claim she made to the media made things considerably worse.

On March 12, 2026, the Supreme Court of Florida approved a 75-day suspension of Ariel Elise Mitchell (Florida Bar No. 125714), after she pleaded guilty to violations covering dishonesty, fraud, deceit, and misrepresentation under the Rules Regulating The Florida Bar. The discipline case, File No. 2021-70,465, had been building since May 2021.

Several sources reported Mitchell has severe conflicts of interest with her clients. One attorney, who remained anonymous, noted that Shawn Carter, known as Jay-Z, funded Mitchell’s education at St. John’s University. Allegedly, Mitchell had a sexual relationship with Carter, leading to a rivalry with his current wife, Beyoncé.

Mitchell is currently being sued by Sean Combs in a $100 million defamation lawsuit, alongside Nexstar Media Inc., the parent company of NewsNation.

In early 2021, Mitchell began representing a plaintiff alleging sexual assault by musician Tremaine Neverson (Trey Songz) during New Year’s Eve celebrations in Miami. During the investigation, she met with a potential witness, who claimed Mitchell offered her compensation to corroborate the assault claim. This led to allegations of witness tampering.

Mitchell's downfall came from her attempts to mislead the Florida Bar and the media. After a sanctions motion was filed, Mitchell falsely claimed to reporters that she’d been cleared by the Bar. However, just 16 minutes after the motion, a dinner receipt revealing the true nature of events contradicted her statements and supported the allegation of dishonesty against her.

Ultimately, the Florida Bar filed a formal complaint against Mitchell, leading to her guilty plea in January 2026 and the suspension from practice. The underlying allegations of witness tampering were dismissed, with Mitchell’s statements following the sanctions motion causing the greatest repercussions that led to her disciplinary actions.
