First Lady Melania Trump says Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to her letter of concern about the child victims of the Russia-Ukraine war.

She made the announcement on Friday, stating that an open channel of communication with Putin has led to the reunification of Ukrainian children displaced by the conflict.

The First Lady's peace letter was hand-delivered to Putin during his visit to Alaska in August.

President Donald Trump shared parts of the letter on social media, where Melania urged Putin to protect children, emphasizing that doing so would benefit humanity as a whole.

Eight children have been rejoined with their families during the past 24 hours, Mrs. Trump said, flanked by American flags behind a podium in the White House.

Of these, three children were separated from their families and displaced to Russia due to frontline fighting, while another young girl was returned from Ukraine to Russia.

The reunification process involved cooperation between both Ukraine and Russia, with detailed reports provided to Melania regarding the children's identities and circumstances.

Mrs. Trump stated that the US government has confirmed the facts. She expressed having learned a lot about the matter since her letter was sent, noting that Putin responded in writing.

In her heartfelt letter, she expressed that Every child shares the same quiet dreams in their heart... They dream of love, possibility, and safety from danger. This development is seen as a significant step in her advocacy for children's rights, which began during President Trump's first term.

She launched the BE BEST initiative in January 2021 to focus on children's wellbeing globally, and earlier this year, she advocated for the passage of the Take It Down Act, which aims to combat revenge porn and protect children's dignity and privacy.
