LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A family from Mount Sterling, Kentucky, recently showed the power of compassion amidst severe winter conditions by bringing a newborn calf into their home. As temperatures plummeted to single digits, Macey Sorrell's husband, Tanner, discovered the calf outside, battling freezing temperatures shortly after birth.

Describing the scene, Macey recalled, “She was just frozen. Her umbilical cord looked like a popsicle.” Earlier efforts to care for another calf last winter were met with tragedy when they lost one to frostbite, which prompted the family to act swiftly this time around.

Once inside, they took immediate action to warm the calf, who the couple later named Sally after a character from their son Gregory’s favorite movie, Cars. Macey cleaned the calf off, quickly drying her with a blow dryer before she cozied up on the couch next to the family’s two children.

“They crawled up next to her like it was just the most normal thing,” Sorrell said. “It’s just part of what you do.”

Their children found comfort in the unexpected visitor, with Gregory excitedly naming her Sally. After a night of warmth and cuddles, Sally was successfully reunited with her mother the following morning and is reported to be thriving.

Macey’s heartfelt story and the accompanying photos shared on social media captured widespread attention for their cuteness, showcasing the bond between humans and animals during challenging times.
