GLEN BURNIE, Md. (AP) — On Wednesday morning, federal immigration agents found themselves in a concerning shooting incident during an enforcement action, which resulted in two injuries. A spokesperson for the Anne Arundel County Police Department confirmed that the injuries sustained by both individuals are not life-threatening, and they have been transported to a local hospital for care.
The altercation took place around 10:50 a.m., with Anne Arundel police swiftly responding to reports of the shooting involving the federal agents. According to preliminary reports, the agents approached a white van, but the vehicle allegedly attempted to run them over. In response, the agents discharged their firearms, striking the vehicle. The van ultimately came to a halt in a nearby wooded area.
Though the identities of the injured parties have not been disclosed, Anne Arundel police are taking charge of the investigation into the shooting, while the FBI will look into the alleged assault on the agents. Additionally, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is conducting their internal review of the situation.
