Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he hopes to announce the release of hostages being held in Gaza in the coming days.

In a televised statement, he also remarked that Hamas will be disarmed and Gaza will be demilitarised – either the easy way or the hard way, but it will be achieved. The comments follow a statement from Hamas agreeing to free hostages under a U.S. peace plan, although they did not commit to disarmament and sought further negotiations on other issues.

Hamas condemned ongoing Israeli strikes in Gaza and urged global pressure on Israel. Indirect ceasefire discussions are set to begin in Egypt soon.

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned Hamas against delaying the deal, insisting on swift action for the release of hostages along with a possible troop withdrawal. The proposed plan includes an immediate cessation of hostilities and the release of hostages in exchange for the release of detained Gazans.

Many in Gaza express cautious optimism over potential resolutions while others remain apprehensive of becoming victims of further conflict. Israeli military actions persist with recent air strikes still bringing casualties and displacements in Gaza.

As both sides navigate complex negotiations, domestic opinion in Israel largely supports a deal for the safe return of hostages, suggesting a public yearning for resolution after prolonged conflict.
