President Trump’s first stop on his international agenda was made Tuesday morning in Saudi Arabia, where he was received at King Khalid International Airport by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman—a gesture underscoring the importance of the U.S.-Saudi relationship. This visit, the first major overseas tour of his second term, sets the stage for negotiations to potentially sign deals that could exceed $1 trillion.
Upon his arrival, the President disembarked from Air Force One and was honored with a special welcome on a lavender carpet, complete with an honor guard to commemorate the occasion. Accompanied by high-ranking officials such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Mr. Trump engaged in discussions with Crown Prince Mohammed in a lavish meeting space adorned with marble columns.
The notable greeting contrasts sharply with President Biden's previous visit to Saudi Arabia in 2022, when he was met with a less cordial reception due to past comments labeling the kingdom a “pariah.” This trip is particularly vital for Trump not only to reinforce ties with Saudi Arabia but also to solidify relationships in the region as he continues onto his subsequent stops in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
Notably, on approach to Saudi Arabia, Air Force One was escorted by Saudi F-15 fighter jets for the last part of its journey, marking a significant acknowledgment of the diplomatic importance of this trip.
This tour is set to enhance U.S. influence in the Gulf region, as President Trump plans to pursue extensive trade agreements while fostering strong bilateral relations with key leaders.
