Montana Bar Shooting Suspect Arrested After Weeklong Manhunt
A military veteran wanted for a fatal shooting spree at an Anaconda bar has been apprehended by authorities.
A manhunt was initiated when Brown fled the scene of the crime in only black shorts, leading to a broad search effort by local, state, and federal authorities. Officials announced his capture after a week of relentless pursuit through the mountainous terrain surrounding Anaconda, Montana.
The incident occurred in a bar frequented by Brown, where he reportedly opened fire shortly after entering. According to the bar owner, David Gwerder, Brown had no known disputes with the victims, implying a sudden eruption of violence. The victims have been identified as Nancy Lauretta Kelley, 64, and her three patrons: Daniel Edwin Baillie, 59; David Allen Leach, 70; and Tony Wayne Palm, 74.
Brown served in the US Armed Forces as an armour crewman from 2001 to 2005, including a deployment to Iraq. After the shooting, authorities quickly found his getaway vehicle—a white Ford F-150 truck—but initially could not locate him. A photograph was released showing Brown fleeing the area, shirtless and barefoot, highlighting the urgency of the manhunt.
Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen praised the collective law enforcement effort that led to Brown's arrest, while Governor Greg Gianforte expressed gratitude for their swift response. As investigations continue, authorities are still searching for a motive behind this tragic shooting.
