**Brother of Manchester Arena Bomber Allegedly Attacks Prison Guards**

Hashem Abedi, the brother of the Manchester Arena bomber, was charged with violently attacking three prison guards in a high-security facility in County Durham, England. The alleged incident occurred at Frankland Prison where Abedi is serving a life sentence for his involvement in the 2017 bombing that killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert.

The Prison Officers' Association reported that during the assault, Abedi used boiling cooking oil as a weapon before turning to homemade implements to stab the officers. Hashem Abedi, 28, was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 55 years after being convicted in 2020 for his role in the attack that also led to the death of his brother, Salman Abedi, who directly carried out the bombing. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the tragic event, which constituted one of the deadliest terrorist incidents in the UK in recent years.
