The Merseyside Police promptly clarified the identity of the driver in a Liverpool parade car ramming incident, aiming to prevent the spread of misinformation, particularly following past violent events that sparked false narratives.

The city of Liverpool was engulfed in uncertainty following a distressing incident on Monday evening, where a car rammed into a crowd during a sports parade, injuring numerous individuals, including two critically. In a rapid response, Merseyside Police confirmed that the driver was a 53-year-old white British man, who was arrested without incident at the scene. This announcement came just two hours after the event as social media platforms buzzed with various speculations about the incident and the driver’s identity.

The police's decision to promptly disclose the driver's ethnicity and nationality was viewed as a preemptive measure to contain the spread of misinformation that often proliferates after violent occurrences.
