Taylor Swift Speaks Out Against Legal Drama Involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni
Swift's representatives denounce legal summons as a sensationalist attempt to draw media attention.
In a recent legal controversy involving the film "It Ends With Us," Taylor Swift's team has criticized the decision to summon her as part of a dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni. Swift's representatives conveyed to the BBC that the legal move appears to be a calculated effort to create "tabloid clickbait" rather than seeking the truth in the matter.
The singer, known for her close friendship with Lively, was pulled into the case after allegations surfaced that she encouraged Baldoni to take on script revisions suggested by Lively, who stars in the film alongside him. Baldoni claims he was invited to Lively's New York residence in 2023, where both Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, plus Swift, were present to discuss proposed changes.
Facing serious accusations from Lively, Baldoni has counter-sued her and Reynolds, claiming civil extortion, defamation, and invasion of privacy. The tension stems from not only the film's release but also from ongoing legal battles since Lively filed a harassment lawsuit against Baldoni in December 2024.
Baldoni described an encounter where he received a text from Lively comparing herself to Khaleesi from "Game of Thrones," stating that she has "dragons" to defend those she fights for. In response, he praised her work in the film, underscoring his admiration for her talent.
It has also come to light that Swift may have played a minor role in the casting of Isabela Ferrer, who portrays a younger version of Lively's character. Ferrer acknowledged Swift's assistance during her audition, but Swift's team firmly maintained that the star had no creative or decision-making involvement in the film.
The representatives specified that Swift only provided permission for her song "My Tears Ricochet" to be featured, and did not engage with the project during its production. They further asserted that she did not view the film until weeks after its premiere owing to her touring schedule.
Swift's team contended that the subpoena was a maneuver to exploit her name for publicity, diverting attention from the actual legal issues at hand between Lively and Baldoni.
