Zelensky Vows No Land Concessions Ahead of Trump-Putin Talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky firmly stated that Ukraine will not surrender any land to Russia ahead of an upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a Telegram message, Zelensky reaffirmed that Ukrainians are resolute in their defense of their territory, stating, “Ukrainians will not give their land to the occupier.” He made these remarks in light of Trump's recent suggestion that Ukraine may need to consider territorial concessions to achieve peace, a stance that has sparked concern among Ukrainian leaders. The high-profile meeting in Alaska, scheduled for August 15, is expected to focus on the ongoing conflict, which escalated following Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

In response to Trump’s earlier comments about potential “swapping of territories,” Zelensky rejected any notion of solutions that do not involve Ukraine. He asserted that any resolution that disregards Ukraine's participation equates to “solutions against peace.” The president expressed readiness to collaborate with international partners for a genuine and lasting peace, emphasizing the need for Ukraine’s inclusion in discussions regarding its future.

Zelensky firmly stated that the legal framework for Ukraine’s territorial integrity is enshrined in the constitution, asserting that any deviation from this would be unacceptable. As tensions remain high, all eyes are on the forthcoming talks between Trump and Putin to see what direction the negotiations may take.
