In brief

Tanzania will attend the China International Import Expo from November 5‑10 in Shanghai, with a delegation of 36 enterprises and institutions highlighted at a farewell ceremony in Dar es Salaam. The delegation showcases products such as coffee, tea and honey, while Chinese zero‑tariff preferences for African trade are cited as a key incentive. Officials from Tanzania’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Tanzania Trade Development Authority, alongside the Chinese Embassy, emphasized the opportunity to build partnerships, attract investors and increase exports of agricultural and value‑added products.

Tanzania announced on Saturday that it was sending a delegation of 36 enterprises and government institutions to the ninth China International Import Expo in Shanghai, scheduled from November 5 through 10, in an effort to boost exports and tap new markets.

The delegation was introduced at a farewell ceremony organized by the Chinese Embassy in Dar es Salaam, during which some exhibitors displayed products including coffee, tea and honey.

Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade Dennis Londo said the expo offered Tanzanian businesses an important opportunity to showcase products, establish partnerships and attract investors from China and other international markets, urging exhibitors to engage actively with potential buyers and understand Chinese market requirements.

Jonathan Nkwabi, Director of Trade Promotion at the Tanzania Trade Development Authority, noted that 36 enterprises from both the public and private sectors had been mobilised, reflecting a concerted effort to promote Tanzanian products abroad.

Chinese Ambassador to Tanzania Chen Mingjian said:

"China's zero‑tariff policy for African countries maintaining diplomatic relations with China was creating new opportunities for Tanzanian exporters."
She added that Chinese imports from Tanzania reached 290 million U.S. dollars in the first half of 2026, a 12 percent increase year‑on‑year, and that the first consignment of Tanzanian honey entered the Chinese market through a dedicated green channel for African agricultural products. She highlighted that 15 categories of Tanzanian agricultural products had been granted access to the Chinese market, and that 469 Tanzanian enterprises had registered to export agricultural and food products to China.

Cathy Wang, managing director of the East Africa Commercial and Logistics Center, said Tanzania’s participation grew from six enterprises in 2021 to 36 enterprises and institutions this year, reflecting growing interest among local businesses in the Chinese market. She noted her organization was working with TanTrade to help exhibitors meet Chinese buyers.
