On Tuesday, South Korea’s national Olympic committee and the sports ministry said they would give "all-out support" for the country’s bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympics, after the International Olympic Committee selected South Korea among seven potential host nations. The bid now centers on a co‑hosting arrangement between North Jeolla Province and Seoul, with both parties committed to reaching agreements rapidly and coordinating closely with the IOC.

The South Korean bid follows the country’s previous successful hosting of the 1988 Summer Games in Seoul and the 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang. The IOC will hold virtual presentations by the candidates in November, and its Executive Board will begin "strategic dialogue" with the hopefuls in March 2027.

"We hope to bring the 2036 Summer Olympics to South Korea to further improve South Korean sports and create a new opportunity to spread the virtues of Olympic values, with the legacy of the 1988 Summer Games and the 2018 Winter Games at the foundation," the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee said, adding it would remain in close coordination with the government, regional authorities and the IOC to ensure a successful bid.

Chae Hwi‑young, South Korea’s minister of culture, sports and tourism, met with North Jeolla officials to discuss the logistics of the joint bid and to emphasize the nation’s readiness to host the event.

While the IOC has not yet chosen a host, both the Olympic committee and the sports ministry are actively working to streamline the co‑hosting talks and position Seoul and North Jeolla as a strong candidate for the 2036 Games.
