Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority, Norway’s Research Council, and the Singapore Maritime Institute jointly announced a grant call on Nov. 5, 2026, offering up to $2.12 million in Singapore dollars and $2.15 million in Norwegian kroner for trans‑national projects. The funding focuses on alternative fuels, vessel energy efficiency, and digital green shipping, with projects eligible for up to four years of support.
Singapore and Norway announced a joint research grant on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, to accelerate decarbonization of international shipping, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Research Council of Norway (RCN) said in a statement.
The three organisations, together with the Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI), will offer grants to research partners that include institutions and industry from both countries. The MPA said the SMI will provide up to 2.7 million Singapore dollars (US $2.12 million) for Singapore–based teams, while the RCN will allocate up to 20 million Norwegian kroner (US $2.15 million) for Norwegian teams.
Each proposal must focus on one of three areas: (1) alternative fuels and energy infrastructure; (2) vessel energy efficiency and emissions reduction; and (3) digitalisation and greener shipping operations. Selected projects may receive funding for up to four years, the MPA noted.
The grant call follows two earlier joint programmes in 2015 and 2018, which supported four projects that addressed maritime energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and emerging technologies, the MPA added.
