In brief
Japan’s benchmark Nikkei stock index slipped over 3 percent on Wednesday morning, dropping 1,915 points. The Topix index fell 70.14 points, and the move was seen as driven by a lack of clarity surrounding the U.S. midterm election outcome.
Japan’s benchmark Nikkei stock index tumbled more than 3 percent Wednesday morning in Tokyo, Xinhua reported, slashing 1,915 points to 61,166.08.
A more detailed Xinhua report, released at 10:43 a.m. local time, recorded the 225‑issue index down 1,915.36 points, or 3.04 percent, to 61,166.50 from Monday’s level.
The broader Topix index slipped 70.14 points, or 1.78 percent, to 3,860.14, the agency added.
A version of the same report appeared an hour earlier on Xinhua’s Asian Pacific page, giving identical figures for the Nikkei and Topix.
Japanese markets were closed on Tuesday in observance of a public holiday, a detail noted by Xinhua.
