In brief

Saturday’s heavy downpours have flooded shelters across Gaza, putting nearly 75,000 displaced Palestinians—most housed in damaged and overcrowded tents—at immediate risk. UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that emergency stocks are insufficient and called for more winter materials and funding, while the U.N. Relief Agency confirmed the number of families seeking refuge in its facilities.

Heavy rains that poured over Gaza on Saturday flooded shelters and left thousands of displaced families—many in deteriorating tents—at immediate risk, a statement from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.

The OCHA warned that Gaza’s 2.1 million residents remain largely displaced, with many sheltering in damaged, flood‑prone buildings. Their supplies are already stretched thin.

OCHA said,

"We are deeply concerned for families already affected and those most exposed to the worsening conditions,"
adding that “months of funding shortfalls and restrictions have severely constrained preparations.”

OCHA called for the immediate entry of winter supplies, heavy machinery, engine oil and spare parts to keep humanitarian vehicles and generators operating, stressing that more humanitarian funding is urgent.

The U.N. Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) added that about 75,000 displaced Palestinians are currently sheltering in more than 100 damaged and overcrowded agency buildings, which are also vulnerable to flooding and further deterioration.
