In brief

Nikolay Denkov called on Prime Minister Rumen Radev and Chief Iliana Iotova to clarify why the war is moving closer to Bulgaria, citing drone incidents near Romania and a container‑ship strike off Cape Kaliakra. He criticized the government’s diplomatic stance following a defence ministers’ meeting in Sofia and questioned the protection of Bulgarian territory. Denkov’s appeal highlighted concerns over regional security amid ongoing Russian aggression.

Change Floor Leader Nikolay Denkov has called on Prime Minister Rumen Radev and Armed Forces Chief Iliana Iotova to explain why, despite acknowledging Russian aggression, the war is moving ever closer to Bulgaria’s border, according to a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Denkov’s request came after Sofia hosted a meeting of defence ministers from Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey, which focused on security in the Black Sea. He asked when the government would call upon the aggressor for peace negotiations and whether diplomacy remained the sole solution.

He pointed to a series of recent incidents, including drone attacks on the Black Sea near Romania’s coast and a container‑ship strike off Cape Kaliakra. “What decision did they take at this meeting, and how will they protect Bulgarian territory and citizens from the war that has reached our shores?” Denkov wrote.

The Change Floor Leader also noted that Prime Minister Radev had blamed Romanians for the drones, saying that their public identification of the attacks as Russian had angered “peace‑loving” Putin. Iotova was not quoted directly, but Denkov implied that the Armed Forces had a role in defending the nation.

Defence Minister Dimitar Stoyanov reported that the container ship had been hit near Shabla during the trilateral meeting earlier in the day, highlighting the region’s escalating risks.

Sources confirm the Facebook post, the meeting in Sofia, the drone and ship incidents, and Prime Minister Radev’s attribution. The General’s specific response and the government’s plan for neutrally‐proposed peace negotiations remain unconfirmed at this time.
