Bomb threats were reported on several passenger flights across Europe on Thursday, according to Xinhua, the Chinese state news agency, while Bulgarian and Belgian media echoed the reports. The alleged threats involved airlines flying from Copenhagen, Madrid, and London to the Bulgarian capital Sofia, and a LOT Polish Airlines flight from Warsaw to Brussels.
Confirmed incidents: Xinhua stated that three aircraft on routes to Sofia received bomb threats, and that the planes landed safely. The Bangkok media confirmed that the Copenhagen, Madrid, and London flights were diverted to Sofia without incident. A LOT flight from Warsaw landed in Brussels following a “suspicious report concerning the aircraft,” according to Belgian outlet BRUZZ, which cited the Belga News Agency. The LOT aircraft also completed the landing safely, with no injuries or damage reported.
In each case, the aircraft touched down without incident, and no evidence of a bomb or explosive device was found. Authorities on the ground conducted thorough inspections of the planes, and all flights were cleared to continue operating after the checks.
Unconfirmed details: While the reports confirm that threats were made, the nature and source of the threats remain unclear. No statements from the airlines have yet confirmed the content of the allegations, and investigators have not yet released a full assessment of how the warnings were received or handled onboard. The Belgian and Bulgarian media have yet to discharge their own investigations.
