The Ukrainian military released footage of what it says is the world’s first drone airlift of a wounded front‑line soldier. The 92nd Assault Brigade explained that a ground rescue mission was not possible because the wounded serviceman was surrounded by landmines and faced intense Russian drone activity in the area.
A heavy hexacopter, remotely piloted, was able to maintain stability during the very difficult operation, the brigade said. BBC Verify confirmed the identity of the army personnel in the video and found no evidence of AI generation or manipulation.
The rescue demonstrates the evolving role of unmanned systems in battlefield medicine and could signal a new era of rapid medical evacuation.
