Sophia Laforteza Steps Away from Katseye to Focus on Mental Health
The Filipino‑American vocalist of the globally‑successful K‑pop group Katseye announced that she will temporarily step away from the band to focus on her mental health. The announcement came less than six months after fellow member Manon Bannerman also announced a hiatus from the group.
HYBE x Geffen Records released a statement saying she will be unable to participate in upcoming promotional activities and that her health, safety, and long‑term wellbeing are the label’s top priority. The firm noted that her condition will be reassessed in September.
Laforteza herself took to Instagram to say, “Making this decision wasn’t easy, but I’m learning that health has to come first. I promise I’ll work hard to heal properly and come back stronger.” She added that the decision reflects a broader commitment to mental‑health support for all band members.
With her departure, Katseye will continue scheduled events with four members, while the group remains grateful for the support from fans and industry peers. The collective has also highlighted past threats it has faced, underscoring the urgent need for safe spaces for artists in the music industry.
