FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A shooting at Kentucky State University on Tuesday resulted in at least one death and another individual in critical condition, as confirmed by local police. The incident has led to a campus lockdown while authorities contend with the scenario.
Videos from WLKY-TV in Louisville captured multiple police vehicles congregating near dormitories, with crime scene tape deployed within a courtyard area.
Details regarding the exact location of the shooting remain unclear, with campus police and school officials yet to respond to inquiries. The Frankfort police department reported that they have responded to an ‘active aggressor’ situation and that the campus has been secured.
More information will be disclosed later in the day during an evening press conference.
The governor’s office has confirmed the occurrence of the shooting, with Gov. Andy Beshear stating on social media, “We will share more information as available. Law enforcement are on scene, and a suspect has been arrested. Let’s pray for all those affected.”
Kentucky State University, founded in 1886, is a public historically Black university with an enrollment of around 2,200 students, located approximately 2 miles east of the Capitol building.
