In brief
In a series of rallies across Ohio and Michigan, Barack Obama blasted Donald Trump over the Iran war and consumer price hikes, claiming the midterms are a last chance to rein in the current administration. Trump countered with praise for his immigration and tariff policies and a promise of a $5,000 payout to adults if Republicans win both chambers. The debate unfolded as early voting began, with Trump voting in Florida before heading to Georgia to support Republican Mike Collins. Obama mocked Trump’s White House renovations and accused him of handing Tehran veto power over the Strait of Hormuz. The outcome of November’s elections will dictate congressional control and the president’s ability to push his agenda.
Former President Barack Obama launched a scathing attack on President Donald Trump at a series of rallies across Ohio and Michigan on Saturday, ahead of the 3 November midterm elections.
“This election is our last best chance to at least rein in some of the foolishness of this administration,” Obama told Democratic supporters, blaming Trump for the Iran war and soaring consumer prices.
Trump, meanwhile, stood on a platform in Georgia that praised his immigration and tariff policies, calling his government the “golden age of America” while promising a $5,000 payout for every adult American if Republicans take control of both chambers.
The presidential showdown arrived as early voting already began, with Trump casting his ballot in West Palm Beach, Florida, before heading to support Republican Mike Collins in Georgia.
Obama hit back in Ohio, mocking Trump’s attempt to redecorate the White House and warning that the war in Iran had handed Tehran “veto power” over the Strait of Hormuz.
The outcome of the midterms will decide whether Congress stays under Democratic control or shifts to the Republicans, directly impacting the president’s ability to push his agenda.
