Italian police have announced the arrest of Roberto Mazzarella, a mafia boss wanted for murder, at a luxury villa on the Amalfi Coast. Mazzarella had been on the run for over a year after escaping capture last January during an attempted arrest.

The 48-year-old, accused of leading a significant faction of the Camorra organized crime group based in Naples, was apprehended in Vietri sul Mare without incident while with his wife and two children. Authorities classified Mazzarella as one of Italy's most dangerous fugitives.

During the decisive operation, the Carabinieri military police coordinated efforts with patrol boats positioned off the coastline. Footage released shows heavily armed officers entering the villa to execute the arrest.

It emerged that Mazzarella was living under a false identity at the villa, and authorities found luxury items including three expensive watches, approximately €20,000 in cash, false documents, and mobile phones. His clan is notably involved in counterfeiting operations, particularly related to banknote forgery in Naples.

The recent arrest marks a significant breakthrough for Italian law enforcement in their ongoing efforts against organized crime, which saw a previous operation last month resulting in the detention of 16 individuals associated with the Mazzarella clan on cyber fraud charges.
