A Los Angeles woman dubbed the 'Ketamine Queen' has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for selling drugs that led to the death of Friends actor Matthew Perry.
Jasveen Sangha, 42, pleaded guilty last September to five charges, including one count of distributing ketamine resulting in death or bodily injury.
Prosecutors described the American-British dual-national's North Hollywood home as a 'drug-selling emporium' - selling a range of drugs to wealthy and well-connected clients.
Perry, who had struggled with addiction for years, was found dead in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home in October 2023. Investigators determined his death was caused by the acute effects of ketamine.
Sangha sobbed as relatives of Perry addressed the court, before the judge announced her sentence, reiterating that she must answer for her crimes. The judge noted that she had shown no remorse in the years since her arrest.
During her address to the court, Sangha admitted that her poor decisions had shattered lives, and expressed deep shame and sorrow for her actions. Perry's stepmother, Debbie Perry, urged the judge to impose the maximum sentence, highlighting the irreversible damage caused.
Authorities found numerous vials of ketamine and other drugs during a raid on Sangha's home, leading to serious scrutiny of her operations since at least 2019. Sangha's criminal behavior exemplifies the intersection of addiction and drug trafficking that has tragic consequences.
Matthew Perry, best known for portraying Chandler Bing on the popular 'Friends' series, faced long-standing struggles with addiction, exacerbated by the unregulated sale of substances like ketamine by individuals like Sangha.
