Israeli Airstrikes Strike Tyre, Killing Eight and Wounding Dozens
Israeli aircraft struck residential buildings near Tyre’s seafront, killing eight residents and injuring 32 according to the Lebanese health ministry. The casualty figures are provisional as rescuers continue to scour rubble.
In the days following the raid, the Israeli military issued a fresh evacuation order for residents of Tyre—this time extending to the Christian quarter in the city’s northwest, an area previously left unmentioned. It urged people to move beyond the Zahrani River, roughly 30 kilometres north of the city, as roads were clogged by cars with mattresses and bags strapped to roofs.
"What have we done wrong? What are we supposed to do?" one evacuee asked AFP. Another, Mohammed Mustafa, told the agency that he “does not want to go” and called the claim that Hezbollah was present a lie.
Despite Iran’s warning—threatening further strikes if Israel continued attacks in Lebanon—the Israeli government persisted with its campaign. Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir affirmed that Israeli forces were dismantling Hezbollah infrastructure across several southern Lebanese hotspots and that operations would continue.
The escalation mirrors the broader Israel‑Iran‑Lebanon conflict that began in March after Hezbollah’s rocket campaign followed an Israeli strike that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader. Since a U.S.‑brokered ceasefire on 16 April, Lebanon’s mounting casualties, displaced populations and humanitarian needs have ballooned, with the United Nations reporting nearly a million people in need of aid.
In a separate incident, Israeli forces reported toppling a “terrorist” who crossed into northern Israel’s Galilee from Lebanon, while Hezbollah claimed it had fired rockets and drones at Israeli positions in Maroun al‑Ras and other northern towns.
As the geopolitical stakes intensify—with Iran launching ballistic missiles and Israel targeting Iranian sites—both sides have vowed that conflict is far from over, emphasizing the need for restraint by the international community.
