Four hours ago, a man in Byneset, near Trondheim, Norway, experienced a bizarre awakening when he discovered a massive 135-meter (443ft) container ship lodged in his front garden. Johan Helberg, the homeowner, was alerted around 05:00 local time (03:00 GMT) by a concerned neighbor, who observed the ship heading dangerously close to shore.

"The doorbell rang at a time of day when I don't usually want to open it," Mr. Helberg recounted to TV2. "When I looked out the window, I was astonished to see this enormous ship. I had to tilt my head back to see its top—it felt surreal."

Neighbor Jostein Jorgensen, who witnessed the startling scene, described his frantic attempt to rouse Mr. Helberg. "I thought he would be outside already, but when I didn't see him, I pressed the doorbell repeatedly. It was only when I managed to contact him via phone that I got through."

The vessel, identified as the Cypriot-flagged NCL Salten, was transporting 16 crew members when it veered off course while traveling through the Trondheim Fjord towards Orkanger. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.

"It's quite an imposing new neighbor," Mr. Helberg remarked lightheartedly, "but I'm sure it will be gone soon." Notably, this is not the first time the NCL Salten has found itself in trouble, as it had previously run aground in 2023 but managed to free itself.
