Canada will take part in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, the first new country to join since Australia in 2015.
The decision follows CBC/Radio‑Canada’s elevation to full membership of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the organisation that runs the annual event. The move also comes after a chaotic 2026 contest that saw several veteran participants walk out over Israel’s inclusion.
Canadian talent has a long history in Eurovision, with Quebec-born Celine Dion winning for France in 1988. Other Canadians, such as Natasha St‑Pier and La Zarra, have also represented France in recent years.
In 2027, Canada will debut in the semi‑finals held in Bulgaria, where the previous year’s winner, Bulgarian pop star Dara, took home the trophy. CBC will reveal how the Canadian entry will be chosen later in the year.
