In a dramatic raid last Tuesday, authorities arrested Guojun Xuan and Silvia Zhang at their Arcadia mansion amid accusations of abusing at least 14 children born through their own surrogacy company. The pair, facing more than a dozen felony counts, allegedly used a system of motion‑activated cameras and so‑called “learning centres” to supervise nannies who reportedly struck the children.
The Los Angeles District Attorney, Nathan Hochman, called the scale of the abuse “unprecedented” and noted that 15 of the 16 children in the house are now in state custody. Evidence includes footage showing nannies spanking, slapping and hurling discipline at infants as young as two months.
Zhang and Xuan are also charged with conspiracy to deceive surrogate mothers, forging papers that promised infertile women opportunities to carry embryos that would actually belong to the couple. Judge‑order seizures brought out a spreadsheet listing 21 children, many of whom were hidden from law‑enforcement until the investigation began.
A key witness, nanny Chunmei Li, who allegedly struck a two‑month‑old baby that later required emergency care, was reportedly fired after the incident. Li is now sought by authorities with a $105,000 warrant for her arrest.
If convicted, Xuan could face a maximum of 17 years and four months in California state prison, while Zhang faces 11 years and eight months and Li up to 12 years. RTW News will bring real‑time updates as the trial unfolds and provide live commentary on each new development.
