New York Times executive Jonathan McKinsey, 40, was found with multiple gunshot wounds outside the Dublin Sports Grounds, 35 miles west of San Francisco, on Saturday afternoon, police said.
McKinsey served as the newspaper’s director of engineering for the games player experience division.
Witnesses reported hearing a flurry of gunshots and seeing him fall to the ground with head and chest bloodied. Responding officers quickly secured the scene.
The alleged shooters are McKinsey’s 77‑year‑old parents‑in‑law, Shouyong Zhang and Shili Chen, who were arrested minutes later. They face charges including first‑degree murder, felony conspiracy, wilful discharge of a firearm with gross negligence and child endangerment.
Police have not disclosed a motive. The couple are being held at Santa Rita jail, and will appear in court on Wednesday.
McKinsey’s death was confirmed by the New York Times. The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover why the fatal shooting occurred.
