In brief
In the early days of 2025, a blank calendar invites us to reflect on the year ahead. Amidst the anxiety and excitement of upcoming challenges—like a friend's daunting plans for her business and potential relocation—there lies an underlying beauty of possibility. Each individual has a unique narrative waiting to be filled. Recently, I experienced Christian Marclay’s renowned installation, “The Clock,” at MoMA, which synchronizes clips from various movies with real-time. As I engaged with this piece during a special overnight showing, I became acutely aware of how we understand and mediate our perception of time.
Caught in the flow of the installation, I pondered the essence of time's passage, caught between the desire to savor characters and narratives onscreen while remaining attentive to clock readings that dictated our experience. The installation compels viewers to reconsider the nature of time, a force that exists independently of our perceptions. Every moment is a story, but what narratives will accumulate over 2025? Will we classify it as a year of triumph or struggle? Ultimately, the power to derive meaning rests in our hands—how we choose to interpret our experiences may define not just the year ahead, but our lives as a whole.
