Ronaldo's Future in Club World Cup Uncertain Amid Infantino's Comments
FIFA President hints at potential Club World Cup appearance for Cristiano Ronaldo next summer, despite Al-Nassr's non-qualification.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently stirred excitement among football fans by suggesting that Cristiano Ronaldo may have the chance to play in the upcoming Club World Cup, slated for this summer in the United States. Although Ronaldo's current club, Al-Nassr, didn’t qualify for the tournament, Infantino mentioned that discussions surrounding the renowned forward's inclusion are active.
In a recent interview with YouTuber IShowSpeed, Infantino compared Ronaldo's potential involvement to Lionel Messi's participation, who is set to play for Inter Miami in the opening match on June 14. Infantino stated, "And Ronaldo might play for one of the teams as well at the Club World Cup," while encouraging clubs that are interested to pursue signing the star player as his current contract with Al-Nassr will expire at the end of June.
This year's Club World Cup will see an unprecedented expansion to 32 teams, and FIFA has implemented an additional transfer window from June 1-10, allowing clubs the opportunity to make last-minute signings for the event. Reports have surfaced, including one by Spanish newspaper Marca, claiming that an unnamed Brazilian club has expressed interest in acquiring Ronaldo. Botafogo's coach, Renato Paiva, humorously referenced the possibility of Ronaldo joining his squad, emphasizing the allure of having such a star player, despite providing no confirmation of any ongoing negotiations.
Ronaldo, who previously enjoyed immense success with clubs like Real Madrid and Juventus and has amassed a record of four Champions League titles, remains a formidable goal scorer. Meanwhile, various teams from Europe and beyond, including Chelsea and Manchester City, have secured their spots in the tournament.
Messi’s Inter Miami will face off against teams such as Al Ahly from Egypt, Porto from Portugal, and Palmeiras from Brazil, igniting excitement for what could be an exhilarating competition featuring two of football's greatest icons.
