The United Kingdom has officially been awarded the rights to host the 2035 Women's World Cup after they were the only valid bid submitted to FIFA, the governing body of international football. The joint proposal from Scotland, Wales, England, and Northern Ireland was launched in March amid FIFA’s stipulation that the tournament must occur in Europe or Africa.
While there were discussions about Spain potentially collaborating with Portugal and Morocco for a bid, FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that the UK's submission was the only one accepted.
Additionally, the United States is poised to host the Women's World Cup in 2031, representing a landmark moment for women's football. Infantino highlighted the progress, noting that the Women's World Cup editions in 2031 and 2035 would significantly promote the women's game globally. In a significant expansion, the 2031 tournament will see an increase in participating teams, rising to 48 from the 32 teams that will compete in the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
