Former Aide to Far-Right German Politician Sentenced for Spying for China

Jian Guo, a former aide to Maximilian Krah, a prominent member of Germany's far-right AfD party, has been sentenced to four years and nine months in prison for espionage activities on behalf of China.

Jian Guo, who worked for AfD politician Maximilian Krah, received a jail sentence of four years and nine months after being convicted of passing confidential information to Chinese authorities. Despite his claims of innocence, evidence showed he had been involved in espionage from 2019 to 2024. Krah stated he was unaware of any allegations against Guo until they surfaced in the media.

An aide who worked for a leading member of Germany's far-right AfD party has been given a jail term of four years and nine months for spying for China.

Jian Guo had worked in Brussels for Maximilian Krah, a member of the European Parliament for five years until last year. Krah is now an MP in the German parliament.

The court in Dresden in eastern Germany had heard how Krah's former aide had gathered information and passed on confidential documents to Chinese authorities between 2019 and 2024.

Jian Guo had maintained his innocence, insisting he had not worked for Chinese intelligence, and Krah told the court last month he had only learned about allegations against his ex-employee from the media.
