Delta Air Lines Offers $30,000 to Each Passenger After Toronto Plane Crash
In the aftermath of a serious incident, Delta compensates all 76 passengers onboard Flight 4819 that flipped over during its landing in Toronto.
Delta Air Lines announced on Wednesday a compensation offer of $30,000 for each passenger involved in the recent crash of Flight 4819 in Toronto. The flight, which was traveling from Minneapolis, encountered trouble while landing, resulting in the aircraft flipping upside down and ending up belly-up with severe damage to its right wing. Remarkably, all 80 people aboard, including 76 passengers and four crew members, survived the incident.
Following the crash on Monday at Toronto Pearson International Airport, 21 passengers required hospitalization, though all but one were released by Wednesday morning with injuries that were not life-threatening. Delta's offer of $30,000 comes with assurances from the airline that it is "no strings attached" and does not interfere with any legal rights of the passengers. This has prompted some passengers to seek legal representation, with the Canadian law firm Rochon Genova confirming it has been engaged by some individuals involved.
Delta's CEO, Ed Bastian, stated during a CBS interview that the flight was handled by an "experienced crew," yet further details regarding the crash and ongoing investigations have been scarce. As of Wednesday evening, the remnants of Flight 4819 were successfully removed from the airport, resolving the blockage of two of Toronto Pearson’s busiest runways. This incident has raised concerns and attention, and it highlights Delta's effort to address passenger welfare amidst challenging circumstances.
